Abstract. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the Chinese weight system, tracing its remarkable journey from ancient origins to modern standardization. It explores the "jin" (斤) and "liang" (两) not merely as measurement tools, but as a reflection of Chinese civilization, continuously shaped by political power, economic needs, and cultural exchange. The analysis is structured around three core themes: the historical evolution from disparate local standards to a unified and later globalized system; the key drivers—political, economic, and technological — behind these changes; and the profound impact of this system on domestic society, the broader East Asian cultural sphere, and cross-continental trade. The study argues that the history of these units offers a unique lens through which to understand the dynamics of Chinese state-building, economic development, and intercultural dialogue.

Аннотация. В данной статье представлен всесторонний анализ китайской системы веса, прослеживающий её впечатляющий путь от древних истоков до современной стандартизации. Цзинь (斤) и лян (两) рассматриваются не только как инструменты измерения, но и как отражение китайской цивилизации, постоянно формирующейся под влиянием политической власти, экономических потребностей и культурного обмена. Анализ построен вокруг трёх основных тем: исторической эволюции от разрозненных местных стандартов к единой, а затем и глобализированной системе; ключевых факторов — политических, экономических и технологических, — обусловивших эти изменения; и глубокого влияния этой системы на внутреннее общество, более широкую культурную сферу Восточной Азии и межконтинентальную торговлю. В исследовании утверждается, что история этих единиц веса предоставляет уникальную возможность для понимания динамики китайского государственного строительства, экономического развития и межкультурного диалога.
